Except they traded away their young superstar and cleared cap space for big signings. Maybe they can do that again soon with only smaller contracts to unload. They don't have young superstars to invest in and they did so poorly at investing in the last one that he practically begged his way to Dallas.

How so? They gave up little to get him, played better without him and pretty much everyone in that city are happy to see him go. If he stayed they ran the risk of further alienating their young core, not to mention would still not win a championship. Let him be someone else’s headache now.
