We don't tip in Australia. It's not part of the custom. Instead we have a federal law mandating wages, which start at $17 an hour for a Level 1 server and go up accordingly. That way wait staff are not at the mercy of one individual's perceptions.

What I find saddest about this (in a good/bad way) is that in most countries in the western world, these wages and conditions are already just par for the course.

Start early and frequently. Read great empowering books with them from an early age. Have discussions about everything. Keep the reins steady but not too tight, (but there's no way a 16 year old daughter of mine would be dating a 22 year old. Nope.) And gender empowerment is not just for daughters but sons too.
