“pronoun culture”... you mean language?

Fun fact: quite a few languages don’t have gendered pronouns. If they can figure it out, so can you.

As a teen, my more commercial NIN and Depeche Mode leanings were oft-criticized by my more arrogant peers, and bands like Pavement were the stick they would hit me with. I grew up thinking I was missing something, and convinced myself they were a really great, seminal, indie band.

Yeah, its in the comments on the video---something like the guitarist said “I thought it was funny---if B&B thought our video was cool, I probably would have not watched them anymore.”

Is this the one that Mike Judge told the story about running into the band at some MTV event or other, and he was kind of sheepish and apologetic about making fun of them, and the band was like “No, we loved it! We’ve got another video you can do that’s even worse!”

I wish I could remember which video it was, but my favorite commentary comes from a bit with an exchange that went something like this:

Beavis: Is this the future?
Butt-Head: Yeah.
Beavis: The future sucks. Change it!
Butt-Head: I’m pretty cool, Beavis, but I can’t change the future.

“Damn it, Pantera!”

It’s not really a critique but the other funniest video was for Gin and Juice where Beavis is bragging about he is from Compton. And mostly because it ends with this epic insult from Butt-Head:

Look up any time they review a Nine Inch Nails video. It’s almost always gold.

“Wish”
BUTTHEAD: This is like a zoo where they keep cool people!

“March of the Pigs”
BUTTHEAD: Man, they’re really not well rehearsed for this video.
BEAVIS: Hey! Don’t touch his keyboard!

This is legitimately one of the funniest things Mike Judge has done, which is not an insult or backhanded compliment.

STOP IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT WHICH DOES NOT SUCK

You treat your stepmother with RESPECT, Pantera!

Sold my futon.

Sad thing is, video aside, its an awesome riff. I like the song.

How is their brilliant takedown of Grim Reaper’s “See you in Hell” not in this top 5?

My favorite B&B music video commentary is probably the one for the now-forgotten metal band Crowbar’s “Existence is Punishment”. That kind of slower tempo, dirge-y sludge metal from the ‘90s and the lead singer was a heavy-set dude. Butt-head’s comments that “This music is slow and fat” and “These dudes always sound
