That’s actually scary.

There is a luck element to it. I’ve seen people with decades of alcohol dependency under their belt who somehow aren’t cirrhotic yet. On the other hand, a single really heavy drinking binge can kill you if you’re unlucky.

I’ve treated people in their early 30s with acute alcoholic hepatitis, it’s heartbreaking. If your alcoholism kicks in young it’s just disastrous. Or you can have an alcohol induced seizure or a withdrawal seizure...

It’s an interesting topic, no doubt.

Without a doubt both are significant, there’s a presumption that people who aren’t white or who have a “foreign” accent are of a lower class - and where they are professionals (like doctors), that their education must be of a lower standard.

I think there’s plenty of xenophobia on the Torykip side of the party though.

Probably because there’s lots of them and most of them are brown. Ireland didn’t join the Commonwealth but does actually have this special relationship (predating the EU) where Irish citizens in the UK have the same rights as UK citizens and vice versa. Ireland is a small country though and UK racists seem to think

Hi, this could be a few different things. With the caveat that I haven’t examined or spoken to your dad (obviously) and diagnosing people over the internet is a bit dodgy, here goes:

Honestly, I think Corbyn might be the only major English politician I’d believe was too stupid to realise the mural was antisemitic. He also managed to misspell Rockefeller and confuse Diego Rivera with a footballer.

But if you really think it’s murder, surely the crime is so great that “it’s difficult” doesn’t cut it? Doesn’t any other position admit that you don’t really think it’s murder (at least, not equivalent to murder of an adult person)? That or you think murder is ok in certain circumstances.

No, I think we are different people because I have a hat.

Non addictive pain killers. Like... paracetamol?

Good point.

Right? It’s always reported as though the “except in cases of rape or incest” position is more liberal, but it just seems intellectually dishonest.

Or it could be both, I suppose anti-abortion people aren’t a monolith any more than pro-choice people are.

I never understood how people can claim to believe abortion is murder and then support exceptions for rape and incest. It’s either murder or it’s not. Saying it’s ok in cases of rape or incest just makes it clear you just want to punish women for having sex willingly, does it not?

I mean, there is truth to the alcoholic Irish stereotype. We can’t blame the Americans for everything :P

I’ll take your word for it. Not knowing a thing about Appalachia, I wouldn’t be in a position to judge.

Fair enough. It’s bacon and cabbage over here. Although the Irish Irish will also take the opportunity to get shitfaced, particularly this year when St. Paddy’s Day coincided with beating the English to win a grand slam in the Six Nations.

I’m Irish and that whole sketch was bizarre to me. There are plenty of things to take the piss out of about Ireland, and there is the whole everyone knows or is related to everyone else thing but this left me more confused than offended. I’ve had to make my peace with the fact that Americans know nothing about us
