Eh, fine.  It is kind of annoying to see an Ethiopian-Irish woman labelled as “British” though.

And you apparently think Ireland is part of the UK.  Huh.

Do you mean Ruth Negga? She’s not British.

Massive jeans that were a good 5-10 cm too long for a short arse like me! Also, I grew up in Ireland, where it is constantly raining. I spent my teenage years soaked to the knee.

No but he might have had to pay child support.

“By making the choice to have sex, a woman is making a conscious decision to engage in an act that has the natural result of creating a pregnancy”

Trump has again attacked London mayor Sadiq Khan (presumably because he’s upset about the blimp), blaming him for (personally, apparently) “allowing millions and millions of people to come into Europe” and falsely linking this to the recent crime wave in London.

There are similarities.

One problem is that the DUP declare “the people voted for our platform, including our anti-abortion stance, therefore you imposing change on us is undemocratic”. Laying aside the fact that practically no-one in NI votes based on this issue, I don’t see how anyone can claim a referendum is undemocratic. That’s

It’s the prods that are the problem here, actually.

Are you familiar with the situation in Ireland though?

That is a good point. I presume they’re all from Catholic backgrounds though. My experience is that young progressive types from Protestant backgrounds tend to vote Alliance. People seem to very rarely cross the tribal divide even when they’re not that interested in whether Ireland is united.

Yeah, I can see them possibly threatening them like:

It’s largely a tribal thing.

They wouldn’t even without the current situation. There are several reasons why they really, really don’t want to reinstate direct rule.

I mean, someone might. Bernadette Smith from Precious Life is a loon and I wouldn’t put anything past her, but the dissident Republicans and the Loyalists don’t really care about abortion.

I personally am pro-choice and do not believe that abortion is murder or that an embryo has “personhood”. I do know several people who disagree with me on that (folks who believe in a soul) and therefore would not themselves have an abortion or personally take part in performing one. I’m ok with that, they’re not

The DUP will never change their stance. The SDLP leave it to their members to decide their position and they keep voting against supporting changes to the abortion law. At least the DUP can’t use the petition of concern anymore, but Sinn Féin (oh how I hate agreeing with terrorists) and the Alliance can’t swing it on

Yeah. Sadly, I don’t think NI will change any time in the near future.

It’s a bit more complex than this, but here’s the gist:
