But don't games like Mega Man and Demons Souls/Dark Souls have constant amounts of trial-and-error gameplay, yet still hold their own as great games? Donkey Kong Country has always been a series of trial-and-error gameplay and great platforming difficult, especially in the likes of the minecart levels. These games are

But is there not a general standard? If there isn't, why is it labeled "The Kotaku Review," as if it's the site's consensus, and not "The Stephen Totilo Review?" Ideally, you'd get more than one person to review it, if the site is less of a collective of like-minds operating under a set of scholarly standards and more

I'm with LordDisco on this one Stephen. I've not noticed you making posts or comments about one of the core things that makes Dark Souls / Demons Souls so infamous, so it seems odd for you to jump out of nowhere & call another game archaic for being challenging.

My question is this: did you die due to human error, or

Your blog is wildly inconsistent about whether or not extreme difficulty is a plus or minus, Stephen. Some times, you allow on the site articles on how using death as a game mechanic is brilliant, and how difficulty makes a game that much more satisfying, like any credible critic would. An increasing number of other

So dying and learning in Donkey Kong Country is considered "archaic", but dying and learning in a game like Dark Souls is revolutionary? Huh. I don't get the logic.

Should we call the fun police while we're at it?

The less censored version:

Okay, I'm now thoroughly convinced that there is a massive population out there that have no sense of how to properly use the internet. If they did, stuff like this wouldn't happen; or if it did, it would happen in a more private setting. These two clearly know each other in some way before this incident.

I didn't knew this guy personally, but this is terrible. It's a shame, because this guy was one of the few people to talk about our first game and we really liked what he said.

Of course you're wrong, Minecraft is unfinished because the game as it is now isn't what was promised. How can you even say download mods when people have to pay to first use the game, what type of logic is that?

I think anyone objectively looking at development can see a point where Notch obviously lost interest and wanted to go do something else. Which is unfortunate, because he's unlikely to ever top Minecraft.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize you hung out with him. Guess he's just a big bumbling idiot. Who's just happens to be infinitely richer than you.

Why would we assume he hasn't played at least a decent bit of the game, at least any less than anybody else who played the game and decided it wasn't for them? You don't need to play through to the very very end to formulate an opinion on the game, and you're the one who said he "just took one glance and without

50 ain't stupid. He may not be a grandmaster in video game design but he's not an idiot.

That's the beauty of the Minecraft model. You never have to finish a game. You never have to realize your lofty goals. They already bought it. He was already a millionaire when the thing was still in Alpha.

Blood on the Sand was a self aware masterpiece. It was a fun, comedy filled game that was so stupid, so over the top and ridiculous that it was amazing. The only reason to NOT like that game is if you don't care for 50 Cent's music or G-UNIT because that's basically all that plays throughout the game.

Pretty sure Porkins understands that.

but..but isn't Dishonored a clone of Thief? I'm so confused by you good sir/madame

The game feels like a clone of Dishonored from what i've seen and heard so far. It doesn't feel like the Thief I remember.
