This just feels like “hey, all the kids are on the Kickstarters, let’s try that too, we’d love to make money on something we don’t have to spend money on”

Another reason why owners seem willing to throw away seasons is the rise of the “championship or bust” philosophy that has permeated sports. Whether it’s fans, executives, or pundits, everyone wants to avoid the “treadmill of mediocrity” that, honestly, is probably about the only thing that signing guys like this to a

Jim Cooke is a national treasure and the only reason I clicked on the link to this article was to comment on the lead graphic.

With the number of comments this post generated (which I have not read), it’s pretty clear you touched a chord with a lot of people.

In rod we trust.

I heard somewhere that “cute” basically equals “pathetic”. Meaning something that is incapable of taking care of itself. It triggers the mothering/nurturing instinct, which is why women are more taken with things that are “cute” than men are.

What happens if you de-orbit an inanimate carbon rod?

This is so true. I don’t like to take naps except on Sunday afternoon. I will turn on golf SPECIFICALLY to take a nap. As soon as I’ve turned the TV to the right channel, I will then lie down on the couch and doze in and out for the next hour. It’s glorious and doesn’t work with any other sport.

Just because somebody is good at something does not necessarily mean that they have the skills to be a leader. And that’s OK. It’s quite possible that certain people aren’t meant to be leaders and I’m not sure why they should be denigrated for not being something that they’re not good at.

That’s because the textbooks only go up until the end of WWII (I’m only partially kidding).

The Alamo and Maine are both shuffling off sadly, shaking their respective heads.

I usually like what Sherman has to say. He’s generally thoughtful and willing to speak his mind in a profession where most of his co-workers are loathe to do so.

I think one of the big reasons this is happening more (besides the anonymity of the internet), is that people desperately need to feel like they matter in some way. It used to be that people found meaning in their life through religion or their jobs, but those have both, for the most part, fallen by the wayside.

So

Yes, we hate turning on the TV and seeing players kneeling during the national anthem. Or not standing. Or whatever new form of disrespect they happen to be showing. THAT’S why TV ratings are down.

So an octopus can unscrew a jar from the inside. Big deal.
