Yes, but a variation of this question can be asked whenever the NPOCP vehicle is something older. Sure a Boxster or Cayman might be better than this old 911, but that isn’t the point. A Miata would be better than an old MGB or Triumph Spitfire, but that also isn’t the point. You’re not cross-shopping the older car

You’re not buying a mid 80s aircooled Porsche because you want a Boxster or a Cayman.

An old guy I used to work with told stories about doing this, but what this myth fails to take into account is the motor where this was done. The old guy I knew owned a Model T Ford when he was a kid, who’s engine tolerances were quite different from even a nasty old Lada. Not only that, but the engine used poured and

All of my kids favorites have the muscle truck or the blashemi in it. They got to meet Finnegan and Tony last fall at drag week, best day off from school ever.

I’m a boomer. I think Harley is getting what it deserves.

Then get a smaller displacement Monster. If you don't need a 1200, don't get one.

What a stupid final sentence, Matt. You might as well have substituted “donor-cycle” for “motorcycle” throughout the article.

Time to get a Harbor Freight extractor extractor.

but there’s no rust...”

I for one am going to go ahead and listen to the engineers who have spent their lives developing tires to suit their respective a purposes instead of the Skoal spitting Jim-Bob riding his Harley without a helmet.

If you think this engine only has 1940's tech, you’re fucking retarded.

Most people on Jalopnik have never ridden a motorcycle muchless understand anything about the motorcycle industry.

Every engine uses oil for cooling. Even water cooled car engines. Ar cooled typically use air for the cylinders and heads whereas water cooled cools the cylinders and heads with a water jacket around the hot bits.  Piston squirters in high performance car engines squirt oil on the back of the pistons to cool them down

I really don’t get the jokes about the HD engine being old and obsolete. That’s the whole point, being old school. And the engine is the best part. The only redeeming feature of a Harley, really. It’s glorious to ride, in its unique way. I won’t buy a Harley, since I don’t care for the phony cosplay, and the price tag

I blame the people who gather at the exits hoping to see burnouts. They should crack down on those gatherings, then a lot of the problem would disappear.

Disney learned the wrong lessons from TLJ’s reception, and ROS is the result.

Wish I had read your comment before I slogged through that. What a rambling and almost-pointless piece. I’m guessing the people praising it on here must identify with either Saab or NYC or both.

TL;DR - Guy who fixes Saabs recently moved shops. Also, some jerking off about New York.

Yeah, but the guy in the story is b****ing about spending only $2k to get his 911 “running right”. If his budget is that tight, it is objectively stupid of him to buy the car (sight unseen?) in the first place.

72k...is the key point there, and while I agree Porsche CPO is the best way to go some folks don’t have the budget. You can get nice Porsches for reasonable money without the CPO, you just have to do the homework.
