Maybe because the lead actress who the show is named for spends her non-working hours spreading hateful lies about minorities and others, and is then congratulated by the President himself. Hard to avoid politics in this case.

A show with more nuance would address Dan and Roseanne slipping into their parents’ attitudes as they age and have Darlene, or better yet DJ, point out their hypocrisy.

I like how well that dynamic has lasted. Mick was one of the first people Amaya really bonded with and they’ve served each other well as friends. I like that they don’t seem like an obvious pairing of characters, and yet it works every time the relationship comes up again.

I especially liked Amaya telling Mick that she believes in him & he could wield the fire totem, returning the favor from the pirate episode, where Mick told her that she was a badass with her totem or without it, enabling her to step up and become the dread pirate Captain Jiwe.
