I’m an engineer. My experience in college was that a lot of the dudes were actually pretty excellent and accepting. A small but INCREDIBLY VOCAL minority were fucking intolerable. My experience in industry has been the same. A lot of good, a smaller portion of really really loud bad.

Vague but... aging relatives who will likely need financial assistance in their golden years. I don’t have children or a spouse, so that makes decision making easier but as an only child, there’s no one else to shoulder the financial burden either.

In my mind there’s a distinction between actively crying and simply tearing up. Crying is much, much easier to suppress. Crying could also be construed as manipulative whereas tearing up is more or less involuntary.

Higher rates suppress home sale values. You can refi a “high rate”(this still isn’t high). The people it really bones are the people who recently purchased and will need to resell in the nearish future.
