The population of Houston is about 2.3 million, so in fact it is not amazing at all that some bit of Houston infrastructure is as large as some small, ancient Italian town with a population of 30,000.

To be fair, I will take a sprawling shithole over a packed together like sardines shithole every time. I don’t love Houston, but I HATE NYC.

There are some walkable neighborhoods in Houston. There’s about 20 restaurants and a Kroger and CVS within walking distance of my house. We have some highrises and dense apartment complexes too but I prefer having a house and yard.
