You back up your files to a separate hard drive. Restore as necessary. If every time you paste that file back into a direct it gets deleted than you need an exorcist. Or a full wipe and clean install then you restore your files.

Well I hope it works. I dabbled a bit with a HomeRun so I feel your pain.

Enables them to force the update?

Better get out your hat and start chomping! Would you like some syrup to go with it?

If I can't fix it in twenty minutes with some Google-Fu, it's time to reinstall the O.S. At least Windows 10 makes it easier with their refresh method, though a clean install is the best enema. I can't stress the importance of making a good backup beforehand, though.

License-enabled push practices are here to stay and I’d eat my hat if that ever changed to be more in favor of the customer. I hate the idea that if I mod my PS4 and show others how I can end up in court with Sony trying to tear me a new one. But I don't think it's going anywhere. As for that laptop, there are a bunch

No no, I'm not disagreeing about the program running the CPU in the background on full tilt mode. I just meant it's good to clean the fans, regardless. It's amazing how many people do not do this.

Actually, we all benefit from this change. And they've thought about the customers. Microsoft has been around since 1985. And unfortunately they know a good chunk of the users are still using products from 1995 because they hate change. You can lead your horse to the water, you can't make them drink, but you can sure

You said it was as good if not better. I was just listing how it was in fact better and not just as good. =)

I'm a Mint / Arch person. Those two are diametrically opposed in hands off/on but it's fun to switch back and forth. And I know I can get Steam on Linux and Valve is working hard as hell to get more games on the platform. Mainly because they want everyone to use SteamOS. Linux is just loaded with open-source programs

Can’t Cortana be turned off in the OS? Personally, I’d like to give Cortana a try but I refuse to use a global Microsoft account. Though I hear that restriction is going bye-bye in the next OS update (yay!) Currently Cortana does nothing for me. Rainmeter is fun. I ditched it though and just use CAM software that came

Considering 10 has performance enhancements over 7, uses less resources than 7, and is currently free? Why not upgrade? Or you can wait until 2020 when Windows 7 loses support and eventually pay to upgrade to 10. And face it, even if you're buying a new PC that comes with 10, that price is built into the out the shelf

For clean installs you may need network drivers specific to your mobo to get everything Ethernet back up and running. But if you're building your own rig and are using performance motherboards you'd know to install those drivers from a flash drive, for instance, once you get it up and running. Like Killer Networking,

That's weird considering your BIOS boots outside of your operating system. It has to be your hardware or your BIOS that is the issue.

You need someone to examine your event logs to see what is triggering it. Though you can always go the nuclear option and back everything up and start from scratch. It ain't fun, but it almost always will solve your problem. Unless it's PEBKAC. Then you're screwed no matter what.
