I really think this has been the single largest complete fuck up by a major automaker in recent history, even over Dieselgate.

One thing I’ve never quite understood is that this doesn’t appear to be an issue in other jurisdictions. Other countries made immobilizers required by law and so Hyundai/Kia put them in their vehicles elsewhere. Yeah, exactly. Cops don’t give a fuck about actually protecting anyone. If they do accidentally protect people it’s because there was the possibility they might get to shoot somebody in the process of doing it. They exist solely to protect the property of the upper and upper middle class.

This is the answer. Also do away with the police unions. Police aren’t laborers and don’t produce anything, so they don’t need a union. The unions only serve to protect dirty cops.

Take it out of Police Pension funds. “Sorry, Officer Figpucker, but that guy you covered for a dozen times finally getting caught means no pension payout this year”, that’ll bring down that blue wall faster than you can say “Police Collusion”. ‘Cause that is the real problem, it isn’t just that individual “bad” cops

Same in my area (Richmond, VA).  F-150's are used as family haulers by people who have 20-mile (one way) commutes and constantly bitch about the price of gas.
