It’s been like that for a week - they do have a big link to vwdieselinfo.com up top though.

My 1995 Audi S6 has set un-meet-able expectations for the modern car world. Luxury car, manual transmission, no nannies, clear sightlines? Good luck.

So, your friend lives in Switzerland? They must, because that’s the only place that has banned TDIs from the road.

Why don’t you re-read the comment I am responding to, and my response, and get back to me?

If you think the emissions scandal has anything to say about race scrutinering, I don’t know what to say to you.

GM specified lower pressure on the front tires. When this wasn’t followed the car was unstable, but the fatal cost savings was in the rear suspension.

I see what you did there, what with that Bayer.

That’s every company ever. GM saved $15 per gen 1 Corvair on the suspension, and ruined the car and their reputation.

I can think of a lot of reasons. Can we establish a baseline we can compare between engines? Can we create a starting point for changes to throttle maps and valve timing to make the car both legal and drive-able?

Mad, I think. Except I keep spec’ing GTIs while I wait for things to shake out.. hmm SE manual, or S manual with Tartan seats and the Perf Pack?

FOR SWITZERLAND!

I was sitting in a Golf SportWagen TDI at my local VW dealership this past Saturday when the salesman came out and told me there was a national stop-sale.

How much would it cost to remove all the mods? :(

Same here. I was at a dealership on Saturday for a previously scheduled drive in a GSW TDI manual. Man, timing.

The Alltrack is coming.. alas, auto only.

“Stay tuned!”

That’s much too draconian. VW doesn’t own its dealerships - that’s a lot of people that would be thrown out of work to set an example. Far better to hold their feet to the fire and extract a memorable fine.

And it was only Monday. Now that European governments and regulators have jumped in, it’s clear this is just the beginning. VW itself has mentioned figures like $7bn and 11 million cars.

It’s consistent government behavior: your company killed people with negligence? We’re disappointed. You cheated the government? We’re enraged.

With any luck they’ll be in dire enough trouble to sell me a car at a huge discount in a few months, but no so dire that they abandon the US market.
