I find the effusive praise he gives Saoirse Ronan very endearing. He’s right that she’s amazing, but I just wouldn’t have expected him to be so over the moon for her work. He speaks about her with so much professional respect--that’s awesome.

Aren’t they making a show though?
I think he’s just too young, maybe--his sense of time is off. But 93 sounds about right, because the last good thing Chase did before Community, IMO, was Memoirs of an Invisible Man which came out in 92.
I just can’t get behind Nothing But Trouble. I find it deeply upsetting. Maybe that was the point, I don’t know....no, you know what, I can’t. John Candy was flat out disturbing. Dan Ackroyd’s sense of what’s funny seems a bit off. The best part of the movie was Tupac.
Eh, Pete Davidson is 24—he’s done a hell of a lot more at this point in his life than I think many people have done at 24. He’s been working in TV since he was 18, and he joined SNL at 20. And he’s actually pretty good. That’s impressive. But because he’s so young, he doesn’t have a grasp on Chase’s timeline…
The Innkeepers and Room Service are two of my favorites.. No one did farce at the time quite like Frasier.
Yes, that happened to me earlier--the comments just wouldn’t load. I assumed it was just a site bug...
Yes! This is a great point. I think what a lot of people forget is that SNL has been bad before, and that included some of the time Chase was on it. Not as bad as some of the show’s lowest points, of course (cough cough season 6 for example) but he’s been in his fair share of fall-flat sketches.
So nice to see Amy Sherman-Palladino getting so much well-deserved recognition and praise.
Oh, “All About Steve” is much, much, MUCH worse. It’s one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. You know the speech in Tropic Thunder when they say actors shouldn’t overplay intellectual disability? Well, it’s like the romantic comedy version of that. She’s not just a stalker, she’s mentally unwell and emotionally…
Love Potion No. 9 is way better than it should have been, thanks only to Sandra Bullock. Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman managed to save While You Were Sleeping, too—and the film is essentially about an insane stalker who takes advantage of a comatose man. It’s not okay. And yet, it’s charming as hell, because of the…
This was my Lady Gaga double take moment—I knew she could sing and was a multitalented Tisch student and all that, but this blew me away:
As a long time fan of the Monster Squad, I’m thrilled that a new movie could harness the general spirit, rather than a studio trying to make another soulless reboot.
Maniac looks delightful. I’m excited! A Million Little Things looks like The First Wives’ Club with dudes, which is not a bad thing—and it’s nice to see James Roday and Romany Malco in something new.
I’m seriously excited to see new albums coming from Clutch and Metric. Both bands are just amazing live.
He’s told to plant a “tracking device” on a guy at a protest rally, and then told that if he pushes the button, that device will dispense a shock and kill the guy (who is an “antifa terrorist agent” or something like that). It’s basically like the Milgram study setup, except with murder instead of just electroshock.
I don’t want to click on those to give them more views, but as someone who fits pretty well into being a liberal who is closer to the center than the edge, I’m assuming they aren’t actually progressives, right? It’s true that I seem to run into more and more people who claim to be left-leaning while being startlingly…
I think Let My Puppets Come shouldn’t count because it’s not mainstream entertainment, it’s gimmick porn. I guess it counts as a movie, but isn’t it like less than an hour long?
I’m glad to see A Simple Plan included. I saw that in the theater and was blown away by how sharply written and well acted it was. It reminded me of Blood Simple. I would also add Enemy of the State to the list--sure, it’s no crowning achievement, but it’s solidly entertaining. It’s one of those films I can watch over…
I was surprised there hasn’t been more Meet the Feebles discussion—it’s pretty clearly the OG dirty puppet movie. And, of course, Feebles owes a debt of its own (at least IMO) to Garbage Pail Kids and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
