Also a crazy idea that turns out to be true? Building cities in the middle of a desert is a terrible idea. Dumping 10 million people into an area designed to support closer to zero human beings is dumb as hell.

Replacing them with xeriscaping and native plants work, but they aren’t always the aesthetically pleasing choice.

This is not about lawns and more about trees and appropriate native species that make do on natural precipitation.

Lawns, yes, but green spaces aren’t all grass. Trees use far less water, provide shade allowing grass to use less, and can go deeper for water that is otherwise inaccessible.

Plenty of people care. I care. But as an individual? We have a newer, efficient AC. Out home is nicely sealed up. We recycle. We compost. We haven’t run our sprinklers all summer. And it matters FUCK ALL when some golf course wastes more water in a day than we could in 300 years. Or when empty office buildings are…

Plane crashes are not really in the scope of our coverage unless there’s enough information there that people can learn something. For example, there was a crash where a pilot used a ballistic parachute system; that was an opportunity to explain how those systems work.
