Think I might get a 1972 International 1110 with no electronics whatsoever. Sure, it gets 8mpg on a good day, but at least it will be all mine.

Storage costs, presumably.
Yep. For me it’s honestly less daunting to import used from Japan.
Invading Afghanistan made (some) sense. Some kind of actual police action would have been better, anything to not engage in nation building. Once Dubya tacked on a completely insane invasion of Iraq, the unravelling began.
One was a Toyota Matrix, the other one a Ford SVT Focus. The Toyota dealer mostly ignored me and wife, Ford dealer needed us to jump through ten million hoops before they’d consider letting us behind a wheel (not sure if a deposit was involved). The Suzuki dealer didn’t have an Aerio available. We ended up buying a…
From the last three times I tried test driving something, I only actually got to drive one car.
My godfather would literally make spreadsheets, and then he’d typically weigh the various scores until the numbers told him he should get the car he wanted from the beginning.
I went camping (family of four) and also brought another family’s camping gear in a 1996 Toyota Caldina TZ 4WD Wagon. No problem whatsoever. No skis, but a Thule rack would have taken care of that while also looking good.
If you absolutely insist on buying a new vehicle, why not order it to your specs and be prepared to wait (unless you absolutely cannot)? For something popular like a Sienna or a Maverick, what are the odds of being allowed to purchase the car you ordered in advance?

Functional robocars is even worse - the amount of additional vehicle miles and CO2 emissions that will result from self-driving cars doesn’t even bear thinking about. People already leave their cars running to warm them up or while they’re shopping; they will certainly send them on errands on their own or just have…
NYC and its boroughs...
They look awesome! Imagine the interior - all formica and large-pattern wallpaper, Cobra telephones, and Soviet copies of Sony Trinitrons.
But it’s still worse than people using smaller, more efficient vehicles and much much worse than people not being forced to drive everywhere all the time.
It’s not something that can be done by individuals on their own.
I have literally done this exact thing, as a stupid 20-year old backpacker - left our three passports under the pillow in our room and travelled across the island to port, where I realized. Took a taxi with Corfu’s Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel, promised him double the pay if we made it back in time. He powerslid…
Uh, I just asked to see a link. I think you are reading waaaayyy more into my comment than there was.
No! I wanted to agree with you, but the Century’s proportions are completely wrong. Check out the wheelbase, which forces the cutout for the rear wheel to sit too far forward while making it look very rear heavy, like a toddler with an extremely full diaper.
