I have found that the judicious use of the word “allegedly” is often a signal to cops that you might have a background in the law. As in “what have I allegedly done, officer?” Non-lawyers don’t often use that word in conversation. :)

Thanks! It can backfire -- I almost never get out of a ticket when the officer behaves professionally — but in this instance and on one other occasion when the officer was being a dick (although not sexually harassing), it’s made them back off. (I still got the ticket from the second officer, but he changed his tune

Ugh, I’m sorry. That’s fucking terrible.

WHAT???? NO. You DO NOT need to get in the car with the officer for them to run your license. That is absolutely NOT appropriate.

Happened to me, too (also in a red convertible!). He backed off when I handed him my bar card with my license and made noises about how he was just kidding and he would let me go with a warning.

Still does, and they are the best.

He did, but he was on the grass. Still a nasty burn, I bet.

They were still doing this when I was a kid — unless you came into school knowing how to write your name, they would switch you to right-handed. Fortunately, I did, so they didn’t try to switch me, but as a result of being left-handed in a largely right-handed world I can do almost everything right-handed--throwing,

The penalty on a pitch clock violation is a called ball.

It’s true, it doesn’t matter where traxex is. They’re a dipshit everywhere.

I’m not sure what his reputation has to do with it. It’s not about what he’s done before, but what he did this time, which is revealed that, if he is pushed in the right way, he’ll resort to a homophobic slur. That is who he is.

See, I’d argue that things that aren’t “true to who [you] are” are still who you are. He hasn’t changed for the better with regard to calling people “faggot” when he’s upset until he actually stops calling people faggot when he’s upset. He can just admit fallibility and stop trying to convince us that “who he is” is

My favorite part of Eddie’s comments is how, in defending the use of homophobia as a bastion of free speech, he also manages to throw in some bonus misogyny as a kicker. It’s BOGO with him.

It was a good apology except for this: “This is not who I am.” It is, in fact, who he is. Maybe it’s not who he wants to be or who he thinks he should be, and it seems like he’s going to make a legit attempt to quit being that person, but “this is not who I am” is a bit of trash in an otherwise good apology that I

As a professional, I can tell you that them walking out of their graduation will have literally no impact whatsoever on their careers. We in the professional realm don’t make a habit of coercing colleagues to listen to religious fanatics give speeches because we have actual jobs to do.

Yep, first thing in the morning for me. Before I get dressed, before I look at my phone, before I even walk the dog (unless he insists), I sit down and bust out some pages. That way, no matter what, I’ve done something.

Yeah, I have a vagina, so this advice isn’t going to work for me.

I prefer adopting a grown dog -- you have a better idea what the dog’s personality is like.

Yeah, I’ve had decent experiences with the rescues I worked with to get my Greyhounds. The application was obnoxious in every case, and one rescue refused to adopt to me because I didn’t have a fenced-in yard, but if you want a specific breed, a quality rescue can be really helpful. They know the needs of the breed

It’s so terrible when people don’t understand what is involved with (a) having a dog at all and (b) having a specific breed of dog. Like, yeah, I would love to have a herd of Corgis like the Queen, but my lifestyle and circumstances mean one track rescue Greyhound, please. You can’t just pick a dog based on what it
