she was their first black friend.
she was their first black friend.
Hah I’m serious! I remember back when she still had her show and the live audience had a large amount of middle aged, and even younger white women. Or the suburban soccer moms who were members of her book club. Oprah is advanced bougie from a rough traumatic childhood, and that really appeals to a lot of white people.
I took a class just like this at my university “History of Racism”- same subject matter, different title- and it was amazing.
If trump isn’t imprisoned by then, and Oprah really does run, AND trump still somehow wins then I’d DEFINITELY move to a different country.
Haha I grew up and live in white land too so maybe that’s why there’s so much of the what are you game. All of those other conversation starters would be soooo refreshing to hear!
Haha! That’s annoying. I feel like people didn’t learn anything from 90s era black family sitcoms- black people come in all kinds of shades, even within the same family.
Thank you so much for this! There isn’t enough education out there for the general public to be more understanding of medications like these. I’m on a few myself, and I think of them the same way as my allergy medication or asthma inhaler. If I didn’t have them, I would be dead. I really hate that a lot of people…
Thank you! I’m exhausted from all the times spent listening to people play the guessing game with me. That’s how 97% of guys try to hit on me... By running through the list of EVERY single country with brown people. -_-
I hope you won that! I would get into a fight too if I ever heard such blasphemy!
So I like to think that most black folks have black-dar, but as a halfer (blasian), it’s not that often that people can tell my blackness at first glance, which is unfortunate and I’m still confused by it. It isn’t until I mention it and they squint a little or learn my very popular black last name.
Ambiguous looking halfer here too! I feel like I can blend in with a good chunk of the world as long as I don’t talk. It’s great getting “local/native discounts” but also terrible finding out that almost everyone hates at least one of your ethnicities :-/
If people (guys) thought of sexual harassment as an act of terrorism, the world would be a better place. Because it’s literally terrorizing people- it’s making women feel like their safety and well-being is threatened; that a woman could be physically harmed, stalked, raped, killed... Giving it the capital T word…
Ugh yes pretty much all the English classes from grades ~7-12 had some book about slavery or Jim Crow era. I remember the shit-eating delight of the white boys when we would take turns reading aloud. -_-
I’ve unfortunately had experiences where I got told I couldn’t really be either, and that unfortunately seems to be a fairly common occurrance.
I always say biracial as well, and 99% of the time, I’m immediately asked to elaborate since I’m really ambiguous looking. And then they ask which parent is what and it turns into this long Tiger Woodsical explanation... So to keep things short, “biracial”.
Yes! The crust! I made my DRESSING in mini loaf pans this year so there would be even extra crusty parts.
A lot of the “comedy” for me was nervous cringey laughter, but I think a lot of why it was placed in the comedy category had to do with the blind spot of white people. A lot of self proclaimed woke white people saw the movie but still didn’t get it, and in discussions about the movie afterwards, it was as if I had…
We’re the same person haha.
My dog is on the extreme other end of the spectrum- small fluffy brown poodle terrier mix. Even the vaguely-interested-in-dogs people want to talk to me about him, to the extent that they ask me about his diet, in detail. As a lunatic dog person myself, I’m okay with this until they attempt to touch my dog, because…
I feel you on that, and I also love those bands. It was definitely annoying as hell getting called an oreo by non-black people, but then it was even more soul shattering getting it from other black people.
