Haha I always get the “sound like I’m from the suburbs”, although I am from the suburbs, but what really pisses me off is that THAT is most inconceivable aspect to people. As if all black people in America had to fight their way out of a childhood of violent, drug riddled, abject poverty (and they just love that

Anyway, there are many people who doubt the veracity of some of the mailbag letters because they apparently don’t think people could be so shitty in real life.

It really is! I’ve noticed the new Starbucks in these areas are extra modern and artsy on the outside too! Once there’s white women jogging, it’s too late.

“Dread and sadness” Hahah basically. People become depressed during the holidays because you’re expected to be all merry and bright, but in Cali it’s ALL YEAR LONG.

I love it when it’s foggy or rainy out because it means I can hang in & read, watch French existentialist films, listen to 50s Miles, Trane or Debussy piano music & just look out the window, glad as fuck I don’t have to be out there.

I only like the heat/sun when I chose to be in it.. Like a tropical vacation. But maybe because it’s a vacation.

I still refuse to watch the live action bastardization of one of the greatest stories ever told, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

There is comfort in different, and I *assume* Melbourne is a lot like my own LA in many ways. The healthcare and living wage are definite selling points for me. Race relations is a big concern though... Everything I see about Australia shows the vibrant South and S.E. Asian community, and I’d feel at home in that (I’m

I live in Orange Country *cringe* but frequent LA a lot. Basically the entire area north and east of LAX is hipstertown... But I noticed even Inglewood (Insecure wasn’t lying!) and parts of South Central are starting to turn.

9. The “Why can’t we just forget about our differences and come together?” guy, who’s usually the exact same guy as the “I don’t see color” guy and the “Why does everything have to be about race?” guy and the “I’ll have a Coke Zero, please”guy

I actually don’t have a problem with these guys. I feel like they create a lot of jobs for black dominatrices.

Damn I wish they would. That would ease up the traffic situation A WHOLE LOT in LA.

Thanks for that! I watched a few videos and omg what a dilf! He’s basically hard rock Barack.

UGH that one too! “One of the good ones”. That’s the last thing I heard before I cut out some of my non-black family members years ago, and learned all about Asians and their complicity to white supremacy. I love that last sentence. It blows my mind how many people don’t hear themselves when they talk, and how many

I definitely noticed being in the extreme minority when I would go to any sort of rock, indie, or punk concert, but I assumed that was because of the location. I hate that white people can go on and on about all the non Eminem hip hop they listen to and no one questions it, but if we listen to rock it’s unbelievable.

I considered it because the weather is similar to CA, but my friends offering me a place to stay there are a gay couple so at least I’d have a little bubble of support. NZ seems amazing though!

I have completely forgotten what hope for the future feels like.

That last paragraph. I feel you. I too always got the “but you’re not REALLY black” for being articulate (and liking Radiohead haha). I’m glad you were able to have the talk with your fiancee. I’m mixed (half Asian) and 2016 made me feel EXTRA ethnic.

They are, at least judging from the PACKED waiting rooms of therapists’ offices. My already existing depression has been at it’s most crippling this year.

I considered Australia.
