I can't say I've found this to be the case in my experience (and that's putting it mildly). Women's plus size clothing in general sucks and is hard to find. If you're taller than 5'10, good luck finding pants anywhere that don't look like waders. Stores don't stock pants for women over 6'...thankfully now at least

It isn't just ADHD where Disability Offices can offer accommodations. I have quite severe depression and anxiety, and as an undergrad and grad student, the Office of Disability Services at both my universities were extremely helpful (after my therapist advised me to speak with them—which is the first, and sometimes

@OGG7619: Wow. I am really glad you posted this, because I know that a great many college professors think this.

They may ask for reasonable accommodations, which are protected by the ADA. I'd also point out that college and work are in many ways quite different. I've never had anything like an exam at work, so I can simply plan my day, prioritize in a way that allows me to finish my work on time, and ask for help as needed.

Yes. Exactly. That's good advice that I've used myself in the past. It works. Sometimes, if the person is overly sensitive, they take it as a rebuff. But you can't and shouldn't worry about that. It's not your fault.

Boundaries are key, especially if you are a woman or a minority or both. People will use niceness- and the social contract that implies- to walk all over you, to excuse their own bad behavior and/or bad work habits or take advantage of you financially. Be polite and respectful, but set boundaries!

I agree with this assessment. I used to be the awkward guy at the lunch table myself. I know that OP is trying to get him to take a hint, but it is sometimes the case that a person may be too dense, inexperienced, or both to understand that kind of subtlety. The best way to get him off your back is to tell him what's

. . . . and this is a major contributor to the lack of diversity in many companies. Women, members of some religions, people different from you - you might not want to have a beer with them or they might not even drink beer. But you're not hiring them to drink beer!

But the onus to make sure the waiter is getting paid isn't on the person visiting the restaurant, it's on the restaurant owner. Don't get me wrong, I usually tip well for good service, however it's not my job to make sure the wait staff is being paid according to law. If they feel like they're being screwed and they

It slows me down. It's faster for me to just type out the whole word than to look if any of the words are what I need and go tap that instead. If you don't use this feature the constant words popping up are just a distraction.

There's an important lesson here: the difference between push and pull internet. A lot of time-sinks push content to you: Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, News Feeds, etc. They create Fear of Missing Out. "If I don't check these, I'll miss out on something as it's happening." Because getting wrapped up in a live event is

this is all just a behavioral issue that is harder for some than others — what i mean is that just because your phone has all these nifty or convenient apps and services to occupy/inform/distract you doesn't mean you need to be obsessed with the damn thing...i have a lot of these things on my phone as well, but you

^this. Now if this was a double blind study where women's cycles were tracked and their moods charted for a year, say out of 1000 women who have normal periods, then i'd be interested.

There are a few books I like to have in physical form. Reference books, in particular. And we all have a few favorites — big, beautiful books that are special to us and get higher status on a shelf. But for most reading, it feels hopelessly archaic to keep buying paper.

I have a severe hand injury, so it's ebooks for me.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the highlights feature annoying and idiotic. I don't care what other people highlighted. And yes the feature is turned off on my kindle. I also made sure my college books didn't have any highlights in them.

I guess it's mostly only obnoxious if, like me, you don't really use Facebook chat for anything. Once in a while people send me messages, but not nearly enough to have another app to check out, and I'm rarely on the desktop site.
