I’m not sure how the US having universal healthcare and having government run hospitals would fix this, given the large number of elected officials who are anti-abortion, as well as states doing everything within their power to make abortions difficult or impossible to obtain.

Why are religious hospitals even a thing? This seems like something that fundamentally be separate, like separation of church and state. Especially in rural communities where their only option turns out to be a Catholic hospital.

I recently read an article that included a family where the wife had to keep working despite the fact that her income didn’t cover full daycare costs for two children because her job was the one the family got their medical benefits through. So this poor family was getting screwed two ways.
