Did anyone download a copy?
Did anyone download a copy?
Yea, this is basically the video game version of fan art or fan fiction.
Unless it had server side code, I’m sure someone downloaded a copy.
Seriously, if I made a game and somone made something like this, I’d buy it from them and sell it.
Trademark and copyright are not interchangeable terms.
Unfortunately, as a community, we don’t really support this.
Show me where on the Nintendo eShop I can purchase and play a voxel version of the original Zelda.
Under the original copyright laws, Zelda would be public domain by now.
It’s been established through countless court cases that the third party implementation of an API has absolutely nothing to do with intellectual property or copyright and is legal, but that’s all been invalidated now that chemiclord from Kotaku has spoken.
Are you honestly saying that any code that transfers data in any way related to copyrighted material is violating copyright? Do you know how the interent works? Do you know how computers work?
The server isn’t running World of Warcraft, at all, in any way.
People still make games for the NES, at what point is a system old enough to be emulated?
I’ll add that the only way to make emulators illegal is if you can copyright an API, and numerous court cases have shown that YOU CAN’T COPYRIGHT AN API.
Then why has every major emulation court case been found in favor of the emulator developer?
By this logic, all emulators are illegal.
That’s hilarious. They’re claiming copyright over something that they don’t even have a copy of.
But they’re not using any assets of any kind. There are absolutely zero assets on the server. The server just relays messages.
This is nonsense. The likelihood of the code being identical enough to claim copyright is incredibly remote. If that ever becomes legal grounds for anything then god help us.
The server absolutely contains none of Blizzard’s code. Unless you think these people broke into Blizzard’s data center and stole the code from their servers?
Actually, you can do this without modifying the game in any way. The easiest being a single line added to your hosts file in Windows.
