Thank you. I know that it’s impossible to know how someone will react when asking sensitive questions like that (especially online where even a harmless comment or question might be met with an online attack) but I appreciated your desire to understand and also the respectful way you asked.
I just said the same exact thing, except less politely. Thank you!
That’s your takeaway? Something I never said. And what’s your point?
Sure, Part V was terrible with Roy the Obvious Killer and no Jason outside of Tommy’s visions but...
Emma Thompson nailed it with her “extreme masculinity” comment. The world is full of boisterous, loud, tough guy, bullies, who try to use tactics of intimidation to control people.
Yeah, his basic idea that he thinks this is his “second” chance boggles the mind.
It reminds me of a valid complaint women have about men telling them to “smile”. It’s patronizing, it’s true, and it’s also something men tell other men. It’s annoying to anyone when someone who has no idea what your life is like tells you “Smile, it’s not so bad.” but it’s not something only men do, and certainly not…
Yeah, I don’t care for the Us vs Them way everything is shaped these days. It’s so binary, in a ones and zeros sort of way. It’s either ON or OFF. There’s no grey area anymore.
At the very least, there should be some degree of shame and self-loathing post “Well actually” or “Not to be That Guy” comments.
I don’t either, and I’m a man. I’m failing at every turn.
I’m not a big fan of whether something is “earned/unearned” or “rings true”. It just comes off like a reviewer trope. A trope about tropes. As Phil Hartman on NewsRadio would say, “Delicious...”
There’s always some buzz word / phrase that sticks out like a sore thumb in the articles on this site. Performative masculinity is this week’s winner.
It’s more a human thing than a gender thing.
It’s not. AVC saw the woman’s son use Mansplain in his Tweet, and they thought, “Ouh, everyone hates when we use that word! Clickety clicks!”
Being a smarmy know-it-all knows no gender. Also, I think the term “mansplain” is terribly overused, or used poorly.
I just came here to say this article was wonderful.
Weinstein’s brazen attitude suggests a man with a god complex. A sick man who preyed on young women for his own insatiable desire to control women and rape them based on his position in power.
Yeah, I’m sure someone who lived this sort of life and is being rightly vilified by everyone would be suicidal, but someone who made a living off of leaking things to the media and shaping stories, I’m sure he knows how this plays.
Serial abuser and rapist says the always telling “Hey...c’mon, I’m a nice guy!” bullshit. Anyone who has to hammer home the notion that they’re “nice” is not nice.
