Is Florida Man on vacation?
Heh. I learned to drive from my dad, and in that tradition, I’m generally doing the speed limit by the time I’ve crossed the intersection… Well, when I’m first up anyway…
I still remember my first fishtail. It was fun! I was making a left turn in a torquey car on a damp road and automatically corrected it really easy. My dad was actually pissed that I couldn’t explain how I did it (yeah, I gleefully later told him I had fishtailed :P ). I countered that shouldn’t it be better I could…
Goes with the “Learn to work on your car! It’ll be fun!” :P Sure, maybe if your car isn’t from the midwest and 14 years old and nothing wants to come off, ever…
My now husband’s grandparents believe the “why wait until we’re dead” policy, and thus bought him a car when he graduated college (a Saturn, from the “how do you like your Saturn?” days). He always wanted to learn how to drive a manual, so that’s what he got. Needless to say, he couldn’t drive it home from the dealer,…
My *very* first time behind the wheel of a car— and I mean first… my parents never let me move the cars up the driveway when I washed them and I never even got to sit in their lap and “play drive”— my uncle took me out in his 80s Civic to a big parking lot. Now, my decent coordination combined with the Civic clutch…
People slamming my doors when they get out and I’m still inside the car.
Ugh… I *hate* people who lower them as they just should have gotten a different car to begin with rather than ruining it… The WRX (the older ones at least) are *meant* to have miles of suspension travel, and it’s put to perfect use when you take it offroad in the dirt to let it have some fun!
Yeah, I’d be more grossed out by someone’s bare feet touching things in my car! :x And that’s what all-weather floor mats are for. I’ve had them since I got my car— a set that fits really well— and my carpet looks great too. My pedals can be wiped off easy enough.
Yeah, the incline makes the difference with our automatic. Parking is almost always flat, so I generally never bother. If it’s an incline at all? Then yeah, and the wheel turned if near a curb (even though that messes up my steering lock when I try and start it…). Our manuals though? Yeah, they always have the parking…
One hit the back end of my car when they blew through a red light. I asked the cop who came what I was supposed to do and he said there was *nothing* I could/should have done as I was 100% in the right. They *constantly* blow through the light at the end of our street as there’s a bike path, on a downhill, and I still…
Yeah… There’s no reason for the person behind me to be so close that you can’t even really see their car and it just looks kind of like there’s some dude sitting in your trunk… Their being in my trunk while in solid traffic isn’t going to get them anywhere any faster, it’s just going to royally piss me off and they’d…
Something very prevalent during my early years (maybe the increase in car jackings at lights??) has me stopping just far enough back that I can still turn the wheel sharply and get away (though when there’s a lot of traffic I budge up). But even that isn’t *that* far back… We usually joke that there must be a Mirage…
All three of our cars are “stiff” (though each differently so from each other). Except for when we forgot to drop the tire pressure after an autocross (yikes, that was jarring on the roads…), it’s not bad for us.
I shall *not* do the math… But at least I’m younger than you! :) I have clothes that are older than the OP… I’m going to stop thinking about this now…
The neighborhood where a friend lives has one at one of the intersections along his street… it doesn’t encourage me to slow down though as I actually have to slow back down upon exiting it. And it’s now making me wish he he lived to the left of it as that’d be even more fun…
That’s kind of our problem, well, what is becoming a problem. :D We absolutely adore our three cars and don’t want to lose any of them… Our ‘05 WRX has been showing the effects of midwestern winters, and thus has been teaching us a LOT about car repairs! (that car, especially, is our baby, and we’re slowly making it…
A 7 year loan would absolutely mortify me! We have 3 cars that were bought new, and none had more than a 2 year loan, and all were paid off early w/out penalty (with one of them, which could have been paid for in cash, taking a 2 year/no-early-penalty loan got me a much better price as they were getting incentives…
btw, just wanted to add… I hope to heck you find a doctor/specialist who takes you completely seriously and actually finds out what’s wrong and has a fix… I know how bad my mostly-avoidable motion sickness can be, and I can’t even imagine what yours must be like…
