Locomotive was damaged by a tree and is immobile.
You haven’t thought through the scenario very well.
Would you rather be on a bus in that situation?
It sounds like the locomotive was damaged when it hit the tree, which is why they were able to get moving once a different locomotive got to them.
Yeah airplanes are renowned for their ability to never be affected by weather...
Plenty of planes get delayed for weather that is no problem for a train.

What I learned from this: Quebec is an inhospitable frozen hell zone in winter.
Would a heater grid around the battery, or some other system to keep all those cells at a nice toasty room-ish temperature, do anything to stave off this problem? Seems like a probably worthwhile tradeoff to get back all the range.

OTOH how many conventional cars detonate their transmissions, have electrical issues, blow head gaskets and so on? See- we forgive that because we all collectively know…
I suspect you have a better EV than our Nissan Leaf. Between the power delivery and the tires, it is more about skating the car when there is ice/snow on the ground.
