I’ve been playing Yoku’s Island Express, and man, this game is charming as heck. I didn’t think stapling pinball onto a Metroidvania could work, but man, it works beautifully.

Back when the game first went viral, I accidentally discovered this, and I felt like a super-genius. In fact, my avatar on some of my old Internet haunts was a screenshot of the game’s victory screen.

This comic is evergreen.

It felt like a deliberate stylistic choice, but a really shitty one, like something a freshman film student would put together to look arty.

Playing some more Yakuza 6: The Song of Life this weekend. The game is a real slow starter, but once it gets going, it’s full steam ahead. Now that the secret of Haruto’s parentage has been revealed, things are really heating up. I kind of called the twist, but it was done in a way that I found very satisfying.

It’s sitting at an 80 right now. Most reviewers seem to like it quite a bit, but the negative reviews are mostly consistent with Will’s take.

If we’re doing guilt-by-association, her brother-in-law is a sexual harasser!

It’s also worth noting that this dirtbag organization was responsible for getting visual novels with queer content removed from Steam en masse last week. Fuck them and their puritanical bullshit.

It’s doubly strange, because their onscreen friendship is supposedly based on their real-life friendship.

Making Boyle too invested in Jake and Amy’s relationship is one of the worst writing decisions this show has made.

I’d say Circa Survive fits the bill. They’ve perfected the art of experimental post-hardcore, and they’ve released six rock-solid studio albums. But none of their work is truly transcendent.

The problem I have with Platinum’s Easy modes is that they often have auto-fire or auto-dodge, and it starts to feel like the games are playing themselves. I still want full control; I just want enemies to take more damage!

I’ve been playing Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, our current Revue Club game, and I’ve reached the part where the game ramps up the difficult by adding even more arbitrary reasons for mission failure. Apparently ledge assassinations count as detections now, even though they never counted as such earlier in the game. -si

Interesting to see this retailing at $30 instead of the usual $60. I wouldn’t have pegged this as a budget release.

I’m kind of sad the Douchebag Jar didn’t make one final appearance in Season 7.

I love the implication that Tran orchestrated everything from the moment he met Nick so that he’d end up in the backseat of Russell’s car.

I love me some Sarayu Blue, so I’ll check out I Feel Bad, but the rest of this doesn’t look terribly compelling. I’ll wait for reviews.

I’m going to try to make some progress in Yakuza 6 this weekend. I feel like Onomichi hasn’t wormed its way into my consciousness the same way Kamurocho has, and I think I just need more time with it.

I can see how others might derive enjoyment from Destiny 2, but I just don’t find the mechanics all that compelling. The shooting in particular feels weightless; there’s not enough heft to the weaponry. It feels like I’m playing laser tag.

Now playing

I laughed for literally five minutes when I saw this:
