I didn’t even recognize Akiva Schaffer in the role, and now I feel embarrassed.

Yeah, it’s especially bad in anime nowadays. Everything is a deconstruction of a deconstruction now. For instance, in the “isekai” genre, KonoSuba (comedically) deconstructs the video game worlds of shows like Sword Art Online, but SAO was itself a deconstruction of power fantasies (while simultaneously falling prey…
I’ll try not to spoil too much of Psycho-Pass in explaining. The show is set in a world where a supercomputer called Sybil can analyze people’s demeanour and physiological indicators to determine their likelihood of committing a crime. The world is under near-constant and near-universal surveillance, and those with…
I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 this week. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience. It’s not the best JRPG I’ve played, but it’s by far the most ambitious.
I have to agree. Season 3 was just a slog. I loved Season 1 though.
This is exactly it. The writers’ comedic instincts have been honed for snappier edits. When they have more stringent time limits, they trim the flab.
About fucking time. Jeez.
Thank you, Emily, for spelling Furguson’s name correctly.
For some reason I was bracing myself for it to be Tran. I don’t think I could have taken that.
Re: that Yakuza 0 video - Man, that was like a friggin’ fever dream.
I know. I was expressing my surprise that the plot didn’t go where I thought it was set up to go, which isn’t exactly the sentiment expressed by that paragraph.
I really thought the point of Nick’s storyline was going to be that he was procrastinating on his proposal to Jess, but the episode didn’t even mention that link.
Woohoo, new Ali Wong comedy special!
What it really deserves is a sequel. We know some work was done on it, as a leaked C.V. of a games industry employee revealed, but given that we haven’t heard anything about it in years, I assume the project has been abandoned.
Agreed on the video game industry’s exceptionally short memory being a detriment to game preservation, and a shoutout to the digital archivists of the world who are working against it.
On the docket for me this weekend is the just-released Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. I haven’t played any of the entries from 2 to 5, so this is probably going to be a confusing experience, but I did watch a story recap of 2 and 3, and I’m going to read summaries of 4 and 5 before diving in tonight.
Worth it for the maze gag alone. That had me in stitches.
I remember that when the series first premiered, people were skeptical of Simone’s comic abilities. Man, has she proven them wrong.
LiveJournal still exists; it’s just entirely based in Russia now.
From what I’ve read, they were actually played in the opposite order so that Totoro could serve as a pick-me-up after Fireflies.
