Seriously. They just focused on the “girls” part and ignored everything else. I take no issue with adults reading YA, but a college reading list should have something more substantial.

It’s punching down. Dessen is a well-known author with a lot of fans. The critic is just some random college student in North Dakota. If you’re a famous person and you call someone out, you’re gonna bring a lot of negative attention to that person, and it’s not fair to do that to someone who has little influence over

That was in a previous year. This student, who is the target of this hate, had nothing to do with that decision.

But it’s not like this student was involved in the decision to include Ready Player One on the list years ago. And it’s not like she was advocating for male YA novel to be added to the list. She pushed for Just Mercy, a book about racial injustice in the legal system.

For real. I have no problem with adults reading YA, but a college reading list should be college level.

I really had my heart set on going to the first showing at Alamo Drafthouse. The website kept crashing so much, and the app wouldn’t work at all. It took me half an hour, but I managed to snag the last ticket!

Racist white people assume that other white people are as racist as they are, so I’ve had other white people (sometimes complete strangers) tell me that I should get with a white guy and have white babies to preserve the white race. Bleh. Someday I’ll have the courage to make a scene, scream “I’LL HAVE WHATEVER COLOR

What a jackass. Ariana is an entertainer, not like, a disaster relief worker or whatever. The attack probably traumatized her, even if she wanted to stay to comfort other victims she probably wasn’t in a good position to do so.

“Take the bus”. I don’t condone unsafe driving, buuuuut lots of places don’t have a half decent public transportation system, or don’t have one at all.

I was a child, though I didn’t see the attacks, I remember the years of aftermath. I remember thinking that “freedom fries” was the dumbest thing ever.

I read an article about it in Seventeen.

I like this idea.

Is this for real? I know lots of similar stories turned out to be hoaxes.

At my church, we were encouraged to turn them into crosses.

I don’t get why people have such a big problem with subtitles. It especially drives me nuts when I hear about people buying tickets to foreign films and then complaining about having to read subtitles. If you aren’t visually impaired or dyslexic or something, what’s the big deal? Is reading really such a chore? It

He has to get ahold of the weapons and ammo, if he doesn’t already have them. Get mentally prepared, maybe. Did he intend to escape and avoid jail? He would have needed an escape plan.

Some people are complaining about the Death Note movie having mostly non-Japanese actors... But I’m fine with it because at least they’re not setting it in Japan and keeping the Japanese names but making everyone white, ha ha.

A big issue is that with some conditions, like autism and ADHD, girls show different symptoms from boys. A lot of the research is done with boys (I’m curious as to how it started out. Are the female symptoms more likely to be socially acceptable, or at least tolerated, behaviors?) so the girl stuff isn’t as well known.
