The dead Doctor was his ganger. Just re-watched "The Almost People" tonight and the Doctor made a comment to his ganger about not being invited to his (the ganger's) death this time.

I generally have great success with Pandora although Regina Spektor is so unlike the rest of the world that I end up skipping A LOT of songs on that particular station. Also, where else would I have discovered Humanwine and Bitter:Sweet?

Oh, I know. I guess I didn't make that clear. Whoever came up with the terms "African-American" and "Latin American/Hispanic" didn't do any favors to to the complex identity of black and brown people of mixed ethnicities.

This is fine with me. I want Jack to be the eleventh Doctor's companion for two seasons to explain that hole in the good captain's memory.

White people define their own ethnicity through (immigrant) nationality and others' nationality through skin color. It's hard to see yourself as "ethnic" when you're a mix of five (me) or six (junior-falcons) different things. But to a lot of whites black is black, brown is brown. For some reason this doesn't seem

It's the same thing, actually.

I bought that this summer at the Smithsonian but haven't had a chance to read it yet. It was the first place my mind went when I saw the article title.

I've read Desolation Road and River of Gods and loved them both. Gods is kind of similar to this book in that it also deals with multiple, overlapping characters and technology in a near future setting. Road is like Martian Chronicles on acid.

McDonald's wordsmithing always blows me away. I'll put up with some of the problems people have pointed out below - slow plot movement for some of the characters, lack of description of cepteps, etc - to wallow in his use of language.

I'm back teaching this week already. Summer is over.

Good cookbooks and the Food Network are the new cook's best friend. Even if you don't like the recipes being made on the cooking shows they're a great way to learn new techniques and the vocabulary of cooking. And Alton Brown. Lots and lots of Alton Brown.

House rules: If you're coming for dinner, you have to bring something to share. What have you got?

Anyone who's bringing good wine is always welcome for dinner. How close to Michigan are you?

As a man who bakes I can tell you that a really good mixer is far from "unnecessary technology." Good equipment is expensive.

Southern grandmothers can keep their cornbread recipes. Dry, nasty stuff. I'll keep my good northern cornbread, all moist and sweet.

Today I baked molasses cookies with junior-falcons then made sourdough banana bread with the old bananas mrs-falcons had gotten around to eating before they turned completely black.

Lou Anders? Any relation?

Does Staples only hire Asian guys for tech roles in their ads? No? How about if they never hired Asian guys for tech roles in their ads?

double post.

What, pray tell, did you make of Martha Jones then? Ugh.
