You can bet her father or mother is a toxic narcissist. Accepting bad behavior is a learned behavior. If not The Donald, it would have been another abusive jerk just like him.

Oh shit.

I think it’s more like narcissism helps attain wealth. If you don’t give a fuck about anything but number one, things like social norms, laws, and ethics aren’t going to be a deterrent to your goals.

I believe the clinical term for such behavior is Really Fucking Weird.

Yeah, basically a zero-value-added comment. Kind of a theme, based on his post history.

Congrats on leaving - it took me two years to leave my narcissistic ex, several more months to truly disentangle myself, and several years of therapy to fully heal. One day it clicked - it was all his insecurities projected on me. Sending you healing vibes.

I’m glad you got out. :)

Dang, that was your comment in this thread? Harsh.

Indeed. Some people grow up embracing their empathy. In materialistic nations, though, I theorize it is discouraged to be empathetic and more sociopathic/psychopathic to get ahead in life.

‘I think it would look better for you if you were a classically trained musician.’

I’m pretty sure she knew what she was getting into. She just figured the cheeseburgers would have done him in by now.

Be very careful in the future to look for these signs early in a relationhip. We tend to be attracted to the same “type” so there could be another one on your horizon. Save yourself the pain of repeating the same patterns.  Good luck.

“people who lack empathy have to do a lot of work to gain it”

This was by far the best ‘dating a narcissist’ article I’ve ever read. Thank you very much, Rebecca. I dated a narcissist and serial cheater/liar for 2 1/2 years and finally and FULLY left him at Thanksgiving. It was (and occasionally still is) emotional for me. But, something about reading your article just now fel

It sounds like a good way to guard against falling for a narcissist is to pay attention to how they treat other people. They might treat me really, really well, because of that idealization pattern, but if I notice that there are some folks they treat horribly, I could recognize that this isn’t a person I want to be

Life Hack: Constantly mispronounce “Bagel” in order to quickly identify narcissists who try to correct you.

And you know what’s really frustrating?! Before more information emerged, so many men were sharing this story with long conspiracy theories about Epstein and Deutsche Bank - I pointed out to one group that statistically it would be about misogyny and while it was acknowledged, most still wanted to make the point that

Every so often an author goes on a rampage and starts greying long time community members. It’s happened to so many of us.

This is horrific. I know someone who represents women targeted by gender-based violence, and who was stalked and harassed by this murderer for years. I have an absolute chill running down my spine.

A reminder: Considering a murder/suicide? Do the suicide first.
