Reluctant CP - The price seems so...right. based on the condition and for what it is. If anything, I think the Seller nailed the right price for this car and should be applauded for that alone. She/he isn’t asking too much, not leaving too much on the table. It’s spot on.
This car is not exciting or interesting. It’s a NP for what a commuter car. End of comment.
What a difference a couple weeks make. Lots of folks were saying this was a design success this was a few weeks ago. Now they’re harder to find in the comments. I’m thinking our attitude is bit muddled by the current state of world affairs than the actual looks of the car.
Great review! Makes me want to take a second look. Too bad that when I look at it again, I’m reminded why I looked away in the first place. It’s ugly.
I think one of them had trouble with the windows, if memory serves. I do remember most of the plastics getting brittle on them faster that I would have expected.
Good to know. Never been a VW owner. Yeah, lesson learned I supposed.
I think it was more bad luck than mechanic error. Belts can fail even when new. Frankly, I don’t know. I suppose Mitch Kelleher’s is onto something. We didn’t have a ton of cash and probably skipped replacing the tensioner (save a penny, lose a pound).
Either way, they were thoroughly enjoyed while they lasted.
My family had three which we bought used. The last two self-destructed b/c of their timing belt issues (I think they call it interference engines?). The first self-destructed b/c of an old timing belt, the next one in 3K miles after belt replacement. Sold the third one before we had to replace the belt.
Whew! I’ve got a soft-spot for the G80. I’m glad they nailed it. I was worried they would shrink the G90 and call it good enough. Here’s the G90 for reference:
I want so badly to hate on this article and disagree with it b/c of my years-long hatred of the Aerostar from having to ride in one miserably for years. However, the fact that the Aerostar is so miserable (and ugly)
Not a step up from the prior gen, IMO
I don’t care how much of a good/bad deal this is market-wise. I don’t think anyone will regret owning one of these at this price. SO. MUCH. FUN.
Wait, wait. I guess I’m not plugged into the scene there. Fanboi’s thought that quality could get worse? I thought that when you buy a VW, you just kinda let quality and reliability slide? What have I been missing?
Megamullin likey what he sees.
Illogical and indefensible NP for me. I get that I would pay through the nose on work for this one, but I would occasionally get to drive it, right?
The site has weathered a bunch of big problems but you managed to hold it together and still put out great content. I’m sure that couldn’t have been easy. Tremendous thank-you for your help!
I second that.
I can get behind that comment.
Too soon, SlowpokeTexas. Let it breathe, man!
