NBC either needs to turn down every advertisement for every candidate running for POTUS or they have to run that ad.

The ad wasn’t for Trump running for president. He’s not a candidate for anything this year. So what you cited does not apply.

How about not displaying any flag? Have a one minute of silence. Offer condolences to the victims and then play hockey. Being an appropriate human being that is kind and respectful in the face of tragedy and loss is not that difficult.
