Literally one of my worst cargo related fears. I transport propane tanks with some regularity inside my SUV and this extremely rare scenario is constantly running through my mind. It’s why I always keep the rear most windows open when transporting propane tanks if I can.

What made you think human life was significant?

I can understand that people choose to risk their lives to participate in this race. Why they make that choice is beyond my comprehension. But what I really don’t get is why anyone is interested in watching others kill themselves in this race. Is human life really that insignificant?

Wear is caused by heat and friction. I think the idea is short, fast stabs prevents a buildup of heat and thus reduces wear on the rotors or glazing on the pads. Would need #science to test this though.

Flyover country... but I do work in tech/telecom, with a degree, and make an above-average wage for the area, but certainly not extravagantly above. A bit above your rural figure, but less than a third of your ~200K urban figure.
