Sad but perfect.

And she was calling him a clown?

Are WE the same person? I’m tall and thin, was wearing clothes way too old for me by the time I was 12, and had a mom who didn’t know what sizes meant - she once bought me a pair of gauchos in size 14 petite and was so. elaborately. annoyed. and put out. when I told her that I literally could not wear them and we

Oh my god. That’s my mom! She also constantly bought clothes for herself, but she’d change her mind about them (and never, EVER returned them for some reason). She’d then toss them to me or my sister (who’s 6 years younger than me) and say, “Heeere, look what mommy bought just for you! It’s your perfect size!”.

I told her to get control of her inner bitch. My dad still talks about that moment with glee and admiration 16 years later.

You have my sympathies. My mother had similar tastes (though I didn’t have a sister for comparison), and she took me shopping for my 8th grade formal outfit in the petites section of a grandmother-oriented department store. I was the only girl in a long skirt and button down, all the other girls had dresses that

There was one moment that made me realize how much everybody in Milan was just crazy and had lost any sense of reality. I went to the only center in town that treats eating disorders. I told the therapist that I was bulimic and sometimes I would puke so much I’d pass out. Her answer was “Well, stop doing that!”

O.K., that’s some Bette Davis-level stuff there. Sorry about that.

In Milan finding anything above a 6 is impossible. But everywhere else, bigger women are actually more appreciated. When I go in the South, the amazing South, they all ask me if I’m sick because they find me too skinny! I also get lots of free food because of it!

“You need to lose 10lbs off your butt” - THE LAST WORDS MY GRANDMOTHER SAID TO ME BEFORE SHE HAD A STROKE AND BECAME NONVERBAL AND DIED.

I’m right there with you! I keep gasping reading the horrible things some people’s parents have said to them! 😨

That’s terrible! A size 6 is small!

“I have had 5 kids and I am not as fat as you” my mom to me at the first xmas I brought my husband to. She then attempted to make out with my husband in the bathroom and when he rebuffed her, asked her boyfriend to kick his ass. She was not drunk.

I was about 12. My dad had buddies over to watch hockey or some such. I was asked to bring snacks, etc. into the room for them. One or two of them made digs at me about having “small tits”. My dad agreed with them, and some other sort of joke was made. My face burned, and something inside me broke. Totally stopped

Grew up in Milan, where you see skinny models everywhere. The women in my family are small and pretty. I came out taller and bigger and hungrier. My mom goes to the gym seven days a week twice a day and has been on a diet since 1987, the time I was born at a low weight because she had decided she was too fat and

Nah, not traumatized. I have kids too (21 and almost-23) and I AM this kind of mom. I learned at the knee of the master.

My goodness. I don’t have a story to add but I just wanted to say to all those who are sharing stories, I’m sorry your parents said shitty things to you. Truly. :(

“She looks like a clown’s whore.”

I was 12, it was Christmas and we were heading to a holiday party. I was mid-growth spurt, lots of puppy fat, and nothing fit me. I only had two dress-up options, so I picked one - the wrong one, apparently, which was communicated thus:

My mom has some serious snark in her game. She also feels that it’s her motherly obligation to take me to the airport every week (I travel for work) despite the fact that the company would pay for a cab or for me to leave my car at the airport.
