Of course loud pipes don’t “save lives,” and I would never posit that. But I have put in about 15 years of riding now and I appreciate both the palpable performance increases of a full exhaust system and the clearly better exhaust notes a tuned system provides my sport bikes. And I like it to be as loud as possible.

It’s definitely functional on a sport bike — allowing more air to enter the engine also allows you to add more fuel to the mixture. That gives the bike considerably more power.

Two brothers pipes are pretty embarrassing. But I wonder how sweet your bike sounds with stock pipes? In my experience, with many motorcycles, not that many do. The stock cans are only there to pass emissions, and most manufacturers have a preferred exhaust for the sound that was intended by the engineers.

Disagree. I rode mostly sport bikes - monsters and panis, but I also have a Diavel and an R nineT. I ride because I love the feeling of freedom, the speed and the sound. But I also love the image, the style, the lifestyle. That’s probably the case for most bikers ad riders. It’s probably the case for most people who

You must hate MotoGP. Probably like everyone else here. 916s must have Termis and unrestricted airflow to run properly.

What bike and what pipes? That’s one of the first moves almost everyone makes on a new bike, and most of the comments from these non-riders or boxer-commuters are missing that point. Also, it appears many Jalops live in neighborhoods where Harley guys ride around before sunrise — I have not been privy to that

Well I don’t ride a Harley, I have Ducatis from the original monster to the 1299 panigale. If you think they don’t handle well or stop well or perform well... I would challenge you to a race. You take whatever car you like, I’ll take a Diavel or a Multistrada. I think you’d have a hard time beating me on my poor

I change the pipes on every single bike I own — mostly Ducatis. And the same is true of almost all of the other Ducati riders I know, they at least wear helmets, jackets, gloves and boots. I also always wear pants, true riding pants. So I’d say you’re pretty off base with that comment. But no one here seems to know

I must truly be an anomaly because I love it. And I don’t ride a Harley, I ride almost exclusively German and Italian bikes.

I doubt that either one of those things are true. California has the strictest of all Moto-exhaust laws and your ears are very unlikely to bleed from 100db passing by quickly.

I meant “wait, wait, tell me more.”

Now you have a problem with lifted trucks too? Wtf is wrong with this website?

Try competition werkes— they're super loud.

Again, this sounds like a neighbor issue more than an aversion to Akrapovic.

Horrible performance? The last bike I bought does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. The one I bought before that has 205 hp and weighs less than 400 lbs wet. Are you sure you know what you’re talking about? Both get 30-40 mpg. What kind of performance are you talking about, exactly?

Now that is very interesting. You grew up in a Ducati dealership and you appreciate the sound of a BMW boxer? That can't be true. What percentage of Ducatis do you think go straight to Termis? How often does your shop perform that mod? Also, which Ducati engines do you think don't sound good? Or which are your

Oh really? This is my first time posing on Jalopnik, old timer.

Right hear?

Nothing keeps bikers safe except their own vigilance. Especially with drivers who don't pay any attention at all.

That's what this post is for, cagers hating bikers.
