It’s not the same at all. The majority of US film, especially blockbusters, has white men in the prominent roles, and it’s been that way since the beginning.

I have heard people discuss this. Basically, the film makers have used Chiwetel Ejiofor as an “alibi” to excuse their white washing of Asian characters. It’s pretty gross honestly. I love Chiwetel Ejiofor ESPECIALLY when he does sci-fi and dystopian movies. But the studioshouldn’t get brownie points for casting him.…

They weirdly did the same exact same thing *with Chiwetel Ejiofor* in The Martian. The logic seems to be, if we make multiple source material Asian characters not Asian, and make most characters white but one non-main character Black, we aren’t racist! Hollywood needs to get it together.
