True. A few years back, I did a tour out West and ended up on some gravel road winding up the side of a mountain in the back end of Glacier National Park, me on a ZRX1100 and my dad on a Goldwing GL1500. We both managed it OK, just going slow and being careful. I did bang up my header a bit and the oil sump got a good

I ride a V-Strom 1000, not exactly an “adventure bike” in terms of off-road chops, but the styling and seating position is the same. I like it because I’m tall (6'3" with a 35" inseam) and I fit comfortably on it. It’s nice that I can take it down hardpacked dirt roads without concern, but you can do that on a regular

Swapping a 944 engine into a non-S 924 is a bit more involved than that, unfortunately. You’d also need the front crossmember, and I believe also the front suspension and steering assemblies as well. It would be worth it if you can get the parts cheaply, but if not, well, it wouldn’t be.

$4500 for a 924S seems about $1-2K too high to me. Heck, I bought a 944S for 2 grand less than that. That was a few years ago, though, so maybe these cars are finally starting to ride the old Porsche appreciation wave.

Looks pretty cool for a cruiser, but I’m with you on the forward controls. I have little folding footpegs on my V-Strom’s crash bars so I can stretch my legs from time to time on longer trips but I can’t imagine that being comfortable at all as the default position. Just looking at the rider in those photos is making

I mean, to be fair, Tesla did release a “vegan” car after PETA’s “appeal.”. Of course, whether it was because of PETA is a completely different question.

I wish I could find one of those ski racks.

I would like to come, but I dunno about only being allotted 15 minutes for pizza. Are we racing in pizza-eating, too? ‘Cause if so, then it is y’all who gonna get schooled.

My Dad tells a story of a friend he had in high school who swapped the (front drive) Rocket V8 out of a Toronado into the back end of a VW Beetle.

Yeah, it does both - adds a lot of heat to the bolt and gives you a new surface to wrench on. If it gets really bad, I’ve welded cheapo HF wrenches to rounded bolts to remove them.

This is the best stuck-bolt-unsticker I’ve ever used:

I miss the Geo Tracker dashboard/steering wheel it used to have a few years ago.

“Visiting the Silverado factory was one of the coolest and most meaningful things I’ve done,” as Mr. Rock was quoted in a press release.

Well, I’m glad that someone besides Lockheed won. It’s not good sense to consolidate that much of the industrial base into one company.

Basic welding skills should be in every serious gearhead’s repertoire. I am far from an expert, but I can confidently stick mild steel together with my MIG without having to worry if it’s going to break apart. Sometimes, the welds are even nice to look at.

I used to have one of these and loved it. Out of all of these (except maybe the Unimog) it’s what I’d choose.

Uh well I was going to say I don’t mind spending a bit more to maintain an interesting older car so a few grand a year is OK with me... But I guess that actually makes me one of the cheapest people on the planet. Who knew?

Came here to say this. I still love cars, but there’s no car that is half as involving as a motorcycle.

I’ll bet AM General is sweating now. The HMMWV was their bread and butter. I’m sure their lawyers are furiously preparing a protest right now!
