This is the logic that Clone Wars and, I think, ultimately Lucas operated under. Dooku wasn’t a Sith apprentice while Maul was, just an associate of Palpatine. Then, Maul falls down a shaft, presumably dead, and Dooku is offered apprenticeship. Then, Dooku finds his own apprentice in Ventress. However, he refers to

Oh, and I am now taking issue with the term “fan service” in this instance, because in no way does this movie do anything in service to fans. It has been clear for a very long time that JJ Abrams does not even have the slightest ability to come up with an original idea. This movie is not fan service it is simply all

Recycling this from another discussion, but I think it applies here.

If there are only two parties, again I find myself a centrist. The OT is great, Rogue One and The Last Jedi are very good. The Force Awakens and Solo are fine, Revenge of the Sith is bad, and the first two are godawful.

Booooooooo

“Hopefully, the Sonic the Hedgehog crowd will campaign to give Fred his neon orange ascot back.”

Jeffrey Combs better be all up in the Lovecraft universe.

To each their own, obviously, to me dismissing the issue because Star Wars is genre fiction sells Star Wars, and genre fiction generally, short. It expresses that the work isn’t worth taking two seconds to think something through. Down that road lies Bayformers.

We are not alone!

Everyone but Superman’s, ironically. This cape attachment design was, is and always will be awful.

No, you clearly and unequivocally imply it with the comparison of a scholar from one era to a random person from another. It’s a dubious assertion, on the merits, given that being taught someone does not mean they have functional knowledge. A medical scholar from Baghdad in 1300 knew more about the body than a random

Of bloody course you are. 95% of the economists I’ve ever interacted with are incredibly arrogant and ignorant. This is far from the first time some econ bro decided to lecture me on history because he can’t possibly comprehend the massive gap between his field and mine.

I realize I’m coming off stronger and more like a jerk here than I intend, but you’ve got to understand I’ve had this argument 5000 times and every single time I get the same responses from people who seem to think all the work people do to study history is just as valid as the vague notions of the past they’ve

Good Gods. I’m really going to get lectured by a bunch of people with no historical education on my own goddamn field today huh?

That life expectancy includes child mortality, it’s a myth that people lived very short lives in the past. If you survived childhood you would likely live into your 50s, the upper classes in various societies even older.

Now playing

because nintendo fans are anime/children and sony gamers are adults.

Good Place got boned royally. Not only is it consistently funny, it has to do so with network restrictions. They get around it with extremely clever workarounds. Probably the most underrated show on TV. Never even heard of Fleabag before last night.

Anything Good Place needed an award. The good news is that they should get their dues next year.  I have a feeling the series is going to go out with some of the best writing they have ever done.

I was rooting so hard for Janet(s)!

Hated Interstellar. Nolan took criticism of his films being cold personally, and placed “the power of love” trope that ruined the film.
