Thank you for that knowledge

You are assuming those things have not evolved since then which is the furthest thing from the truth. Also, I don’t think the he would mention the step in height if it wasn’t something that was on his mothers mind...

In one breath you say it should be safe and easy to see and get in and out of, and in the next you recommend buying her a 20+ year old car with poor ingress and egress and no modern safety features...

He said it had to be automatic.

Even on the stock 4x4 suspension?

Come on guys, this is one of those times where M.I.A.T.A really does apply. specifically, fully loaded RF 2019 with the automatic.

The 4c? Really, that thing is low and has the widest door sills known to mankind, that thing would be a serious chore for a 79 year old to get in and out of.

Also, Kristens suggestion is

I feel like this sentence makes no sense, but maybe my coffee just hasn’t kicked in yet

OMG, that would be great, so many variations. I think Porsche is the weirdest though!

I would be staggered if they didn’t use some form of turbo engine, but knowing Honda it’ll probably be the 1.5 liter...

The Miata’s fuel economy is impressive as hell, but also, not that impressive considering what it weighs and it’s power level. It’s actually only impressive in comparison to the miatas (and S2000s) of yore, which got abysmal fuel economy for what they were.

It’s funny how butthurt you are when I was poking fun at the OP who claimed it was “unbelievable” that Mazda could eek out a whooping 90 hp per liter.

It’s not unbelievable, 181hp ain’t shit out of 2.0. The Miata is still under-powered (and great)

It was sarcasm, I am not actually surprised by any of this, the OP said he couldn’t believe that Mazda could make 181hp from 2.0, Honda set the bar for this years ago, way higher, and a half dozen other companies have made higher HP per liter 4 cyls since, I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe that Mazda could

I mean, if you paid that much for a bike and it didn’t have some form of self propulsion, wouldn’t you be pissed?

But that’s a different argument than the one you made initially. I think you are letting your ‘sads’ about a 2 seater not being practical for you color your opinion of the value of a Miata. It’s a perfectly practical car for people without kids.

(btw you are preaching to the crowd, my Mk7 R is a great dual purpose car

sarcasm is so lost on Jalopnik readers...

Obviously my response was meant to convey a lack of disbelief that Mazda could eek a measly 181hp out of a 2 liter over 2 decades after Honda did it first/better.

But the MSRP for a GTI starts at 26k so they are the same. Similar fun for similar money, it seems like we must conclude that they are similar value.

I don’t think you can calculate a dollar per horsepower ratio for a bicycle since it makes 0 hp on it’s own.

Honda NA 2.0 in 1999: 240hp
Mazda NA 2.0 in 2018: 181hp

I don’t BELIEVE IT either, how the hell is Mazda, almost 20 years later, still short so many horses...

I would never shed a tear over a run of the mill Lambo.
