As a former teacher, that apple-themed crap was the bane of my existence. Parents, trust me, your kids’ teachers DO NOT WANT another apple-shaped tchotchke. NOT EVER.

I could have read a whole book about the weird castle and its weird royal family. The dragon parts were like a different story entirely.

Yeah of course she’s not going to leave him. She’s got no other options, and she’d believe it’s HER failing for not being “patient and godly” enough or something. And everyone else around her will agree.

Yeah, not like “your culture is bad” but “this is the culture and the rules here.” Like an orientation. “We drive on this side of the road, liquor stores are closed on this day, and we don’t force drunk people to have sex.”

I think Dragon Heart had some entertaining ideas, but it did not seem like a cohesive story at all.

I love Temeraire but I feel like all the traveling around the world that they’ve been doing has taken some of the charm out of the story. It’s sometimes a laundry list of “here are different cultures and their dragons”.

Yeah! That doesn’t make sense! There’s nothing preventing the people in the rest of the world from putting on old plays and watching old movies. In fact, since they now live lives of perfect leisure (although I find myself wondering who does the dishes, people still gotta eat) wouldn’t they use that free time to watch…

Yeah, knits can often be darned, but I haven’t the faintest idea how to do it, sorry. A tailor will certainly have some ideas!

I think we might have that one too! I honestly don’t know anymore. We have SO MANY boardgames it’s ridiculous. I haven’t even played half of them.

I think it depends on what you’re used to sewing. I don’t usually sew knits, so that’s “advanced” for me. But I didn’t really have much trouble with the actual velvet. I think maybe because the nap is really short.

Yus. I sew things. I hesitate to link my blog, though, because it’s a little too doxxing for me to put on Kinja (even though anyone who really tried could probably find me from what I’ve posted here as it is.)
