I’ll bet she did!

With each passing day, I mourn The Return. I miss it so much. It’s a gift, and may go down as one of — if not singularly — my favorite piece of tv/cinema/visual art.

Thandie Newton’s Japanese sounded very good but still didn’t sound native, which makes me think it really was her and not dubbed. Still, it was likely all done in ADR so she could do the lines a hundred times with prompting and constant correction until they got the perfect take.

Safety protocols.

“Can the show build up the threat posed by Andolov enough”

Dolores is cold blooded. If you look at the screen of what the tech did to him, turned his compassion to zero while maxing aggression, perception and hostility. She basically made him into her personal murder bot.

Lee explains early on that he re-used some ideas from the previous park in order to bring this one to life―and by “re-use” he means he basically copy and pasted several characters (most notably Maeve, Hector, and Armistice) into a different context.

That basically is what they do—destroy computers and burn servers. One character says that he hasn’t seen an actual, physical book in years.

this was incredibly frustrating. there were a couple good scenes. Jordan and especially Shannon were good. but the world-building and visual style of the film was frequently just embarrassing. why is there a fireman fight club scene? why is there a comraderie pub drinking scene in which no one is convincingly enjoying

Honestly, the show lost me when the writers had Jackie mispronounce “Fabergé”. I know that’s a weird little thing, but it just seemed petty and lazy - everyone over a certain age knows how to pronounce “Fabergé”, because we heard it pronounce on TV for years, particularly in commercials. Seriously. No way she wouldn’t

I friggin’ love The Hazards of Love, but it kind of proves the point about them being a B+ band, because while it’s probably their most solid album front-to-back, and in a lot of ways their most cohesive artistic achievement, they’re too tied up in the concept-album weeds to give us many great individual songs. “The

All Dogs Go to Kevin

That’s what you get for messing with Dr. Lola Spratt. Erin Hayes is way too good for this show, but I was glad to see her getting paid. Killing her off was a huge dick move, and I’m glad to see it blew up in Kevin James’s gigantic face.

“Arcade Fire”

Michael Crichton, at least as a novelist. Even the worst of his “hot topic” thrillers like Rising Sun are well constructed and he was sometimes very good at executing a very clever idea: Jurassic Park, Sphere, The Andromeda Strain, etc. But there’s a certain hollowness to his books and I don’t think I’ve ever cared

Dude I literally working in the film/tv industry. I have a close friend who worked on the show. Yes those people have been paid, trust me. Cut around Tambor. In fact that would just give those editing people more money, you said it yourself.

With Christopher Plummer?! That would be..... awesome.

I also cover The Handmaid’s Tale, and I made the very big mistake of watching this week’s Handmaid’s right before this episode. It was a bad, bad choice.

Fine ham abounds.

“This is not who I am” when Roseanne takes the apples got a good sized laugh out of me.
