I somewhat disagree. I think that self defense like boxing or martial arts builds a ton of confidence that would carry over into being more confident and forceful in a relationship as well, even if that looks like getting out rather than landing a punch.

Agreed. I do boxing, mostly heavy bags and mitting. When time to actually punch someone I struggle. I don't want to actually hurt them, I want to apologize for every punch that lands!
