The only thing that makes good sense is to keep the LID down. Any one who uses the toilet can lift the lid and/or seat as they please, and return them to the default position, closed.
You’re asking the wrong question. The correct question is, what kind of animal doesn’t put the lid down when s/he is done? Are we living in a barn?
In my house we put both the seat and the lid down every time. Who wants to see inside the toilet bowl anyway?
It’s simple, really.
1/2 situations in which Men use the toilet require the seat to be down (unless you shit standing up, which...is just impressive)
2/2 situations in which Women use the toilet require the seat to be down.
Therefore 3/4 times the toilet seat needs to be down.

I think the Deadspin team is overall pretty solid, wish they covered more women’s sports. Now the comments section on Deadspin sometimes (too often?) devolves into some pretty nasty sexism, and I wish that I didn’t have to dismiss as much as I do.
Honestly, I probably trust the deadspin team the most with Jez. I feel like the team here has spoken most affectionately about the Deadspin crew, although that may have just been Jolie. Regardless, I'm okay with this.
