Also, during Daredevil’s production, Kevin Smith was pumping out all kinds of positivity toward the movie on behalf of his longtime friend, and back then Smith still had a fairly decent amount of influence within the comic book enthusiast community.

Yeah, there was a reason Daredevil managed to get its own spinoff – it took a while for people to see how bad it was. I think a lot of the initial good reactions were mostly just glee at seeing a well-liked character on the big screen, in any form.

I read elsewhere that Microsoft unleashed a similar bot on a Chinese social network and didn’t have these problems. That’s what made them think they were in the clear here.
