There’s a private sports factory ...er.... high school in Denver that has not only officially licensed merch, but has sponsors like Adidas and Muscle Milk. Their facilities are nicer than the ones I had in college. It’s insane.

In my neck of the woods (eastern PA) we had schools nicknamed Zephyrs, Canaries, Konkrete Kids, and Red Rovers.

Not high school, but in elementary school, my school changed its name from the “Roberts Raiders” to the “Roberts Whalers”, because it was the early 90s and Free Willy was huge (and people still thought Sea World wasn’t evil). The school had a fund-raiser to “adopt” a whale and everything. Months went by until someone…

My two favorites are from Central Texas. The Hutto Hippos and the Taylor Ducks.

Honestly, I’m just happy the school isn’t a generic wildcat or panther or something lame. Tornadoes is pretty good. Better than the racist names the high schools in my town had. Though a neighboring city had the Bunnies.

Can’t knock the hustle.

The Jones Act is terrible. It’s a major reason that Puerto Rico is bankrupt. The island could be a major shipping and trading hub, but it’s precluded from earning a living. Then what is supposed to drive its economy? Tourism alone isn’t enough.
