Agreed. I am the antithesis of most Gawker readers when it comes to guns. Growing up in rural LA, I grew up around them, everyone I knew had them and went hunting, and they just weren’t a thing. If people want rifles and hand guns, go for it.

Right? I’ve used lighters and electric carvers that require more skill and physical strength to operate than your average firearm. How is that acceptable?
You gotta set rules. I would not let my child out of my sight at a house like that, parents or not. Kid isn't staying overnight ever.
Again, the modern gun-lover’s disconnect between actual danger and perceived danger. So many of these dopes firmly believe that their personal safety is so tenuous they need a loaded weapon around at all times - and they’re not abused spouses, nor do they live in a gang-infested neighborhoods, nor are they at risk of…
I certainly don’t feel bad for the gun loving assholes who had loaded guns where children could get to them. I feel contempt and disgust. I hope they live to be 120 years old and never forget that they have a child’s blood on their hands, or easy that could have been prevented
Seconded. And I don’t have any bumper stickers.
I would just not take them there unless the guns are removed permanently. You can never be too protective a mamabear.
I see you’ve never tried to pry something from a three year old’s fingers.
And I mean ... did the kids waltz in the house and straight to the gun? He didn’t think “Hey maybe I should put the gun away?”
Don’t let them gaslight you! My friend was at a family gathering with her little kids, and her dad got up and his tiny gun fell onto the chair and he didn’t even notice...AT A FUCKING FAMILY BBQ! She will not let him be around her children while armed. It’s a totally legitimate request.
2003 called. It wants its donuts back.
I can’t help but feel bad for them, but they have to carry that weight. Thing is, that 3 year old child is going to carry the most guilt for zero fault. No kid should have to live with that kind of guilt, ever. And no kid should die because someone didn't think to lock up the deadly attractive firearm.
Something about his language bespeaks exactly that mindset to me.
Maybe we should consider that feature. It would pretty much eliminate accidental (or as I call it, negligent) discharge of a firearm. It’ll also have the added benefit of making this country a little less dough-y.
There is no number of dead children that will change anything. Sandy Hook proved that.
I feel bad for the kids. And for the doctors and nurses who treated the girl but could not save her.
Forget leaving the gun lying around for a moment... Is it crazy to think it should take more force than a 3 year old can muster to fire a gun?
If you leave a firearm where a kid can easily get it, you are the bad guy with the gun.
Holy fuck...but you know, having guns is the most important thing...
The grandfather had left the loaded gun on the nightstand not knowing his grandchildren were coming over that day, he said.
