I dunno. Lower scores, and the tension involved, make it all that more exciting. If you've been waiting 60 minutes for a goal, you're gonna explode with excitement when it finally happens.

Final Fantasy VI was made in a year. Even considering the jump in technology, this is still taking a ridiculously long time.

I dunno. FFVI sits in a happy medium between the simplistic games that came before, and the gigantic-budget, overly-convoluted, over-designed, pretty-boy AAA games that we have now.

Regarding the plot, you have to understand the times. JRPGs were awash in "hero on quest" plots, and here came FFVI with an ensemble cast with diverse backgrounds that were all fighting for different reasons. Just go play FFIV, and you'll see fantasy stereotypes with vague/generic motivations.

As someone who saw Street Fighter in the theatre when it came out, I have to say this is the best representation I've seen yet.
