It’s down to individual taste.

Correction, it got popular in the West around Z. It’s been popular in Japan from the get-go, as have his more gag-oriented works like Dr. Slump and Neko Majin, and I’m sure Toriyama cares much more about domestic opinions than those of a bunch of American weebs.

Gag manga is king of Shonen Jump, always has been. It’s just harder to translate that stuff to other languages. Toriyama used to only do gag manga until Dragonball, and even that started as more gag-focused than battle-focused.

I mean, the first one was great for a lot of reasons (esp. The Pillows), but mostly because it was a no-corners-cut animation showpiece. And it was so short you could recommend it to anybody.

Lazarus:  You Will Believe a Man Can Jump off of Stuff

The animation for FLCL doesn't really look great.

It is still great. I never watched at the time it was released, having watched it probably a decade past when the music was topical. I wasn’t young - and I certainly didn’t reflect the ethos of those characters in any way.  I was comfortably distant.

Again, it’s fine if people don’t like it. There’s tons of popular stuff that I don’t like. That’s human nature.

Me watching the new FLCL trailer...

It’s literally a metaphor for being 12 and going through puberty.

I think you might be projecting a bit. Everyone I know who saw it for the first time as an adult (I was in my early twenties the first time I saw it, myself) also loved it. I simply can’t agree with this take. You don’t have to like it but don’t assume you understand other people’s enjoyment of it anywhere near well

FLCL: Grunge looks like shit. Quality of the sequel series not withstanding, it’s just ugly and the particular quirks of that animation style translate terribly to 3D. Haruko’s duck face in that one shot looks like absolute garbage.

Man I don’t know I have rewatched the OG FLCL numerous times over the  years and IMO it’s still great.  The sequels though have been pretty bad, it’s just had to capture what made the OG one so good.

I selfishly want them to bring Skullomania to one of the DLCs for SF6. VERY SELFISHLY

There’s an argument for Locke and Edgar too. A weaker argument, but an argument nonetheless

Spoilers for FFVI:

Vaan should be at the bottom, Terra should be higher.

The best thing for me about FFIV’s soundtrack - and something it took me decades to realize - is there’s a common leitmotif that Uematsu uses in a bunch of major songs on the soundtrack.

Nothing will top 6 for me, but 4 is way up there. The biggest difference between the two for me is while both have huge casts (always a plus for me), you never get to choose your party in 4.

Cecil was my favorite protagonist of any of the stories; and I still think IV is the best game of the series in terms of everything. Story, music, and settings. The music especially between the crystal theme, the main theme, the moon music, whatever the name of the tune that starts with a few spaced out deep bass
