Labor is surely the largest line item on the balance sheet for any rail operation. You want them to double their cost,... for what? The appearance of a safer operation?

This is what they wanted you to think at first, but of course it’s a repeat of the “Mechanical Turk”.
As it seems to be with a lot of supposedly advanced tech these days, it’s all just smoke and mirrors with real people still doing the hard work.
It’s especially funny that this story exposes how the tech didn’t really work on it’s own and they had to employ a small army of people to make it seem like it worked, yet the writer still called it amazing tech ahead of it’s time.
I prefer the scan and go anyway. Just use my phone to scan the bar code as I put the item in my cart, pay on my way out, have someone at the door scan my receipt and I’m done.
I expected theft, or the system was faulty. The reality was way way worse. Huh.

There are still a lot of questions about the airplane that was blasted by dozens of lasers from festival-goers in Mexico

My aunt’s now-dead boyfriend would go to our rural airport and just do this for fun before he died. He’s dead now, which is good.
Cost cutting strikes again!
Yeah, the prospect of some good old fashioned Robot Jox aside, that is pretty messed up.
Like that guy who stole a tank years ago, although eventually a highway Jersey barrier got him.
So, the government encouraged a civilian to use deadly force on someone who had not committed a felony, who was no longer fleeing, and who was boxed in by any number of officers and their vehicles? And they knew who had committed the crime and had video of him doing it? Do I have that right?
Uh....since you cant exactly hide these in a parking garage.....couldn’t they simply have waited until it ran out of gas, then arrested/shot* the guy as he exits the vehicle?
